Pass the turkey, the stuffing, and the gravy -- and before you know it, you've eaten too much.I'm Brandis Griffith, with your research minute.
The weight control research project at the University of Kansas teaches Kansans how to rebound after eating too much – whether during Thanksgiving or any time of year.
But there's no magic pill—registered dietitian and project coordinator Chelsea Curry says participants have to look at the big picture.
"it's really what you do over the long haul, over the week, it all averages out. If you have a day that you go over, you can have a day that you go under and you're fine."
Curry says exercise is the main ingredient to avoid major weight gain when enjoying too much of the holiday cooking.
After participants initially lose weight, the research project focuses on managing a healthy weight.
It also tests the effectiveness of different types of diets.
